Traditional vs New Media

While growing up we were always subject to advertising and media, whether it was watching the news with our parents, listening to the radio or seeing commercials between our favourite tv shows, media was everywhere, however I did feel like we were able to turn it off. While looking back at traditional media like newspapers, books and tv, it feels like it was less obtrusive, you could turn it off or look at it when you wanted. When you wanted to read up on what is going on in the world you would grab a newspaper, you could read up on everything from sports, national and international news and comics and many more. Media in my Life

Media is everywhere we look these days, whether it be in our home on the TV or we are scrolling through our phones, media has been able to infiltrate all aspects of the modern day life. For myself, something that has become very apparent due to not having a tv at home, most of my media comes from my phone, computer or being in a public space where there are TVs, primarily coming from my phone. As millennials, we are constantly on social media, whether it be Instagram, Facebook, Youtube or any other online platform. Media has been able to surround us and in my eyes, this can be a good and a bad thing. Media can be very subjective and we as the consumer must understand that not everything that is shown through the media is right or in the right context. We must understand that we must do our own research before believing everything that the media is saying.
